The new year is not even a week old, and already Manatee County government, as led by County Administrator Scott Hopes, has suffered a major public embarrassment with the hiring / non-hiring of school district attorney Mitchell Teitelbaum as a deputy administrator.

Guess who is to blame.

The Manatee County Commission on Nov. 29, 2022, confirmed the appointment of Mitchell Teitelbaum to be a deputy county administrator. However, on Dec. 13, he declined the job, after a county official accused him of sexual harassment. To Teitelbaum’s left is County Administrator Scott Hopes, who picked Teitelbaum for the position.
