Apologies for the late arrival of the week in review, but it’s my birthday weekend.
It’s been a heck of week, with local congressmen defending the former president after the FBI showed up at his Florida beach house with a search warrant; the Manatee School District dropping a plan to hire a disgraced ex-Sarasota superintendent; and the Bradenton police chief in a public war with the union representing her officers.

My best experience with Manatee County government happened five years ago this month when we went to Adopt-A-Palooza and found our dog Peaches and her sister-cat Minnie.
Nothing else has come close in my 17+ years as a county taxpayer, but I am not complaining. The water has always run when I turn the faucet, the libraries are stocked and when I want to escape from it all, Robinson and Emerson Point preserves are prime destinations.
It is surprising so much of county government works so well, considering the poor state of the leadership provided by the political powers at the top, the board of county commissioners.
