Opposition promises to fight proposal at Tuesday's meeting

The 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not give Manatee County government employees the right to carry a concealed weapon, even if they have a license, according to a memorandum from the county attorney’s office to the Board of County Commissioners.
But there is nothing in state law that prohibits the county commission from adopting rules and regulations that would allow employee, other than law enforcement, from carrying concealed gun while on the taxpayers’ dime, County Attorney William Clague wrote in the memo, dated July 15.
