COVID-19 has killed 2,172 people in Manatee and Sarasota counties since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Almost 250 deaths — 246 to be exact, or more than about 11.3% of the total — were recorded in the past two weeks.
