In Manatee County, the chatter says this year's election ballot is far from settled as hopeful jockey for positions

The possible appointment of county Commissioner James Satcher to fill the vacancy at the top of county elections office would cause a major shakeup in the 2024 elections season in Manatee County. And even if Gov. Ron DeSantis does the right thing, bypasses Satcher and instead appoints Scott Farrington, who unlike Satcher actually knows how to run an election in Manatee County, we could still see considerable change in this year’s ballot lineup before it becomes official in June.
If Satcher is appointed to replace former Supervisor of Elections Mike Bennett, who retired March 1, eight months before the end of his term, the governor would then have to appoint someone to complete the remaining eight months of Satcher’s term as the District 1 commissioner.
